Tanya Jammed on the Texas Cruise

My wife Chris, daughter Amy, and I  set off for the cruise from London on Sunday the 26th convinced Tanya would not be there.  We boarded the ship on Monday and Amy went to the information desk to see if they had any news about Tanya and the TCJ but they did not know too much - believe it or not.  Eventually they gave Amy some dates of the 'Private Party Functions' that were happening from Tuesday through Friday.  You can imagine all three of us were somewhat disappointed thinking Tanya wasn't on board, but what the heck we needed the holiday anyhow.

Later on in the evening I was waiting for Chris when I think to myself "Hey I'm sure that's Presley down on the next deck".  It happened so fast I wasn't sure and when Chris came back she convinced me it couldn't have been.  Twenty minutes or so later Amy joined us in the theater and I was telling her who I thought I had seen and where.  Up she jumps and headed off on a scouting trip.  She sure did track Presley down and had a chat with her, passed on our condolences for which Presley was really grateful and confirmed that Tanya was indeed on the cruise and was coping well.

The next day as we went into the first concert you can imagine the trepidation we were feeling.  I would guess there were no more than 150 people there - very intimate.  The Texas Playboys (what legends) were on stage then we spotted Presley come in with her friends - no Tanya though.  Then the Playboys went into "Whose that Girl' and got Presley on stage singing. 

Come Wednesday the concert started at about 3:00 pm - no Tanya, but about 3:20 the atmosphere in the room suddenly changed and sure enough there she was, slipped into the room quietly.  She literally took over from there and was up on the stage as soon as the boys finished the song they were playing.  She said she was pleased to be here and that she was brought up on the music of Bob Wills because it was her dad's favorite.  She then sang 'Lets Have a Heart to Heart Talk', 'Take Me Back to Tulsa' (backed by Presley and Layla) and finishing off with 'Texas When I Die'.

Many people went to the front of the stage with their cameras including me. After Tanya finished singing, she sat down and met and signed autographs for everyone who went up to her -- and there were a lot.  She never moved until all the fans had their chance.

Well, what a couple of you said would happen did -- I went over with Chris and Amy.  Amy told Tanya we had come from England, and me.. I was gobsmacked... I could not say a word.  Tanya smiled and said Hi and I think I mumbled Hi back.  We all had our photos taken with her and off we went back to our seats.

Tanya looked absolutely fantastic -- She sparkled as you would expect, but what threw me was that she had her hair braided and it was short - did she look good? you bet your bottom dollar!
