July
3rd was hotter than the 4th of July in
Osceloa, Iowa at Terrible’s Casino.
Dorin and I made the trek from Hutchinson, MN to the venue in about 5 hours. We arrived and were pleased to see Jim and Virginia setting up their stand. We chatted with them for a little while. It is always good to see Jim and Virginia. They are good people.
We found out that the concert was general seating, so Dorin and I went to change and go eat before the shows. We got in line about an hour early where there were already about 50 people waiting. Both shows had been sold out.
When they let us in, we made a bee-line to the front, only to find out that the first 6 rows had all been reserved for the casino’s high rollers. This did not make us happy. We were told that if the seats were not filled within a song or two of the show, we could fill them. Dorin and I found a couple of seats and started scoping where we would go.
The lights went
down and the band started their warm-up tunes. After the first one, Dorin and I
scurried our way to as close as we could get. It was pretty good. We both sat
in the area reserved for wheelchairs. Since there were no wheel-chairs we could
stay. We had a perfect view for the stage. Then, the familiar music
starts…….Some Kind of Trouble is the tune and out came Ms. Tucker looking hotter
than ever. I love the long hair. For the first show Tanya did Trouble, Oh What
It Did To Me, Strong Enough to
Bend, and San Antonio Stroll. Then out came the chairs for the acoustic
set….Jamestown Ferry, What’s Your Mama’s Name, Blood Red and Goin’ Down, and
Would You Lay With Me. The Acoustic set is always a big crowd pleaser. Tanya
also talked about Tucker Time and how they are still looking for a network. She
didn’t want a scripted show like Tuckerville. She also talked about Paul Davis
and how she loved his tunes. She then started singing a couple of his more pop
tunes, and then said how she was given a tape of 6 or 7 of his tunes that he
gave to her. She said she recorded them all except for one which she did not
think would be a big hit…then she started singing Bop a little bit before going
into Love Me Like You Used To. Then came Lizzie and the Rainman. She talked
about her buddy George Jones and sang Window Up Above. She rocked it with It’s
a Little Too Late and then ended with Amazing Grace/Delta Dawn. All in all a
good first show. Tanya received a standing ovation from the crowd.
Dorin and I learned that the Meet’n’Greet would be between shows. However, we also learned it was only for the high rollers…..so while we tried to find the meet ‘n’greet, the line outside was long for the second show. While we were waiting inside the venue, I heard a voice that yelled Bob…I looked around and there was Be-Bop. She had a big smile and greeted me with a hug. It was great to see her. We chatted a bit until they told us to leave. Even though we had tickets for the second show, we still had to get in line.
We
went to get back in line, Be-Bop’s friend tried to scope out where the
meet’n’greet was. We entered into the second show and tried to take our same
seats we had for the first show, but were told to leave until after the show
started. I went back and sat with Be-Bop and her daughter and friend. Be-Bop
said it was a harrowing experience (car problems) getting there and she almost
didn’t make it. Her daughter talked her into it and they finally hit the road
and made it just in time for the first show. I’m glad they did. They are very
nice people. The second show started with the usual Band warm-up.
Dorin and I snuck up to our previous spots. Then at the last minute, just as
Trouble was starting, wouldn’t you know it, a party with a wheelchair came in.
Dorin was in the row in front of me and was asked to move back a row. He did
and we were able to keep our new closer seats. I tried to signal to Be-Bop and
her party, but they could not see me.
Tanya’s second show was awesome. She looked hotter than ever. I do not remember the tunes, but she did, 3 tunes from TNT..Brown Eyed Handsome Man, Angel from Montgomery and Texas (When I Die) Very cool. The crowd loved Texas. She also did Something from the Beatles tribute, In the Ghetto (she loves the sunglasses when she does Elvis) Down to my Last Teardrop, and more. Sorry I don’t remember the second set as well as it was completely different than the first set . In the middle of the show, Dorin got up and started talking to someone. I looked over and he was chatting it up with Presley. She is certainly a beautiful young lady. What impressed me most is how she watched her mom perform with a big smile on her face singing along with her. You could tell she was very proud of her mom. The second show totally rocked and ended with Delta Dawn. Another well deserved standing ovation was given to Tanya.
Tanya graciously
signed autographs and shook hands from the stage before
leaving
for each show. She signed my What’s Your Mama’s name album and my (Without You)
What Do I Do With Me album. Tanya left the stage. We all gathered together to
make our next move. Be-Bop’s friend said she walked out with Tanya to her bus,
so we knew she was on the bus. We all gathered out front by the bus. Jodi came
out of the bus and was asked if Tanya would come out. Jodi said she didn’t
know. Then she was asked if Tanya would sign some stuff. Jodi brought in Be-Bop’s
daughter’s t-shirt, and Be-Bop’s sign. Sure enough, Tanya signed them. Then
Dorin had a couple of pics he wanted signed, and Be-Bop’s friend had her purse
signed. Dorin asked Jodi about new music and Jodi mentioned that the Time-Life
album would be out in late February. Tanya is still working on Lonesome
Town. Tanya’s assistant, Jodi, is one heck of a nice gal and a very hard
worker, She even brought out Tanya’s 5 month old golden retriever puppy, Coda,
for us to see. She is the best.
Be Bop and her party left and went into the casino. Dorin and I hung out. Be-Bop’s friend came back out and hung with us for a bit. Pressley and someone came out of the bus. Dorin and I said Hi as she walked by. Be-Bop’s friend asked who she was. We told her and when Pressley came back out, Be Bop’s friend asked her to autograph Be-Bop’s sign and her purse. I asked if I could take her picture and she graciously said yes. Presley chatted a bit and said she is working on an acting career. I have to say, she is one very nice and lovely young lady and her mother should be very proud of her. She was very kind to us. Presley got back on the bus; the bus fired up, and off it rolled out to I-35.
All in all, it was another great show and another fun Tanya Tucker experience. The only thing hotter than the 4th of July was the 3rd of July in Iowa when the Texas Tornado touched down.
