She's Back, Ya'll!

What better place for Tanya to stage her first performance back  than the Mother Church of Country Music -- The Ryman Auditorium in downtown Nashville? Tanya's turn to hit the stage came after several performances well into the night, most notably Jeff Hannah (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band), Connie Smith and Marty Stuart.

With members of Tanya's band as well as Marty Stuart's band on stage, Tanya was announced.  Through the loudspeakers came that familiar voice "Delta Dawn, what's that flower you have on" as Tanya began the song while backstage, building up the anticipation of her appearance. Tanya walked out on stage "Could it be a faded rose from days gone by" to much applause.  Both bands contributed to a first rate performance of the Tanya classic.

Marty and Tanya bantered back and forth debating which of their career's started first.  Marty won the round when he told Tanya he was a fan of hers from the very beginning.  The most rewarding moment of the night came when Marty paid Tanya the ultimate compliment telling her that there would be a Tanya in the Hall of Fame right along side the likes of Loretta and Tammy.  "You were the first person in our generation to knock it over the fence to get us started."  Marty was referring to the generation that spawned the most successful era in country music ever.  Tanya didn't comment but it obviously meant a lot to her to hear it.

Tanya reminisced about her first visit to the Ryman Auditorium with her dad back in 1967.  She even pointed out the location of the seat she sat in stage left underneath the balcony.  She talked about some other Opry moments like meeting Ernest Tubb for the second time and also meeting Connie Smith and of course sang a few licks of Connie's classic hit in perfect Connie Smith Style  "Once a Day" with the hiccup and the drawn out syllables.

Marty did an excellent job of dueting on "Love's Gonna Live Here" and backup on Charley Pride's classic "Is Anybody Going to San Antone".  Both songs are from Tanya's new album "My Turn".

Tanya sounded absolutely fantastic on all three songs -- better than ever actually.  The first thought that popped into my head when Tanya came on stage singing "Delta Dawn" was, "She's back ya'll!  And sounding better than ever."

Rock on Tanya --
