Tanya
and the Spirit of Elvis in Vegas at the Golden Nugget
Tanya came on stage to "Some Kind of Trouble" with a beautiful outfit designed by Manuel, who was in attendance on Monday night. Tanya performed a lot of her normal set, but over the course of the three nights also performed a few songs I have never heard in concert before.
Tanya performed a FANtastic rendition of
"Window Up Above" and also talked a little bit about George Jones and the cd
'God's Country'. (I leaned over and said to my husband, here come's your
favorite Tanya song, it doesn't get any better than this). Tanya did say
that her first choice was "Walk Through This World With Me" but Mark Chesnutt
got to perform the song for the cd. Tanya then decided to take a look at
some of George Jones' vintage songs and chose "Window Up Above" , which was
written by George back in the 60s.

Maybe because Tanya was back in Vegas in familiar territory among lots of friends, but for whatever reason Elvis' spirit and songs were definitely in the Showroom all three nights. During one performance Tanya sang a few verses of "In the Ghetto" -- awesome. Throughout the concert Tanya was very concerned about the pants not surviving the night and in her best Elvis voice sang "I hope I don't rip my pants". Tanya also talked about nearby Henderson, where she grew up and the high school in Utah she attended. Paying a visit with Presley was on the agenda while in the area. Tanya also talked about all the grief she received from some of her classmates and to this day remembers the name of the girl who caused the most grief.
We also got some great news on the Reality TV front: Tuckerville is coming back! Sometime around April.
Tanya
did talk about her dad over the course of the three nights of concerts:
"The day I have been dreading my whole life finally got here." She said
life has been a rollercoaster of sorts lately: happy one minute and crying
the next.
We then saw a video Tanya gave to her dad for Father's day several years ago with the background music "Daddy and Home". Tanya performed a very heartfelt "Two Sparrows in a Hurricane". About halfway through the song the entire audience stood up and applauded Tanya for her love and dedication to her dad as well for performing for us because that is the way her daddy taught her. I am pretty sure the audiences reaction only made it more difficult to make it through the song. That performance is a performance I will never forget - ever.
Before "Memory Like I'm Gonna Be" Tanya
introduced
Jerry Laseter as the writer of the song (AND made sure well knew the song was
her idea) and also introduced the bands background singer Chrislynn Lee Jones as
his girlfriend and commented "We like to keep it in the family." My
husband looked at me and said that is the craziest thing I ever heard. I
told him you're at a Tanya concert!
I also heard Tanya perform "Without You, What Do I Do With Me" and "Little Things" -- both songs were fantastic. Getting to hear "Little Things" was on my wish list - so Thank You Tanya!
As most of you all know "Little Things" is on the Complicated cd. Tanya said Gregg Brown, the producer of the Complicated cd, was in attendance and that as soon as they get back to Nashville, she and Gregg will begin working on a NEW cd!!.
One
funny casino comment: Tanya said that she had been in the casino playing
slots but not winning and she has to think that is God's way of telling her she
has enough money. Well, you know, I didn't win either, so I reckon God was
telling me I haven't been very good lately !
The Monday concert was the longest and most special Tanya concert I have ever attended -- it was very much worth the trip. I also couldn't help but notice that Tanya's band sounds fantastic vocally -- they blend seamlessly. Chrislynn started the Monday concert with a very nice version of a Patsy Cline song.
I didn't think it was possible to perform "Delta Dawn" any better -- but Tanya did. She ended the night with "Amazing Grace" and segued into "Delta Dawn"
