It was one of those infamous hot and dry Northern California late July days.
Temps hovering around 98 degrees. And it was only gonna get HOTTER as the
night passed. The heat really started to boil about 8:15, (not too bad for
Tuckertime) when Tanya's band began performing Vince Gill's "Liza
Jane"..after the closing of that, they started with the intro into "Some
Kind of Trouble". The crowd of 1200 went wild as Tanya came out onto the
stage.
She nailed the song and went right into "I'll Come Back As Another Woman". I
had heard lots of comments from the unofficial Tanya Tucker site that she
had lost weight and was looking as good as ever. Well............. it is
true!!!.. I thought she looked awesome!!.. I really like the longer hair
style she is currently sporting. She has definitely lost a lot of weight
since Tuckerville.
Tanya's energy level was on full blast for the entire concert. She
made a lot of light banter with the crowd. She mentioned that she and the
kids had just rented a place in Malibu, California for a few months and that
she is having the kids take acting lessons. She then stated "I'm gonna let
them do the work for awhile."
As the concert progressed she received thunderous applause and
cheers after each song. The songs that got the most response were "What's
Your Mama's Name", "Down To My Last Teardrop" and "It's A Little Too
Late"... of course the song of the night (and the career) was the closing
number.. Delta Dawn, and it got the standing O.
Tanya sang a couple of songs that I really did not expect to hear.
The first being "Hangin' In" and I was very surprised that she did "Angel
From Montgomery" from TNT. I had always read that TNT is Tanya's least
favorite album that she has recorded. And as she introduced "Angel From
Montgomery" she made a comment about not much good came off that album.
Unfortunately, there was nothing said about the new CD nor the DVD.
After the closing, "Delta Dawn", Tanya and the band left the stage.
Most of the crowd stayed around and started yelling and clapping for an
encore. My friend, Jeff (who has extremely good eyesight, aided by contact
lenses) had actually been able to read the monitor all evening and knew
which song was coming up next. He read the song on the monitor and said the
encore will be "It Won't Be Me"....
Well, as it turned out, that was very prophetic!.. Tanya did not
return for an encore... so.. I guess that was her answer to the encore
request.. "It Won't Be T".
Marcia Ramirez was singing backup and a guy that looked a lot like
Keith Urban sang the opening "Liza Jane". It has been about 5
years since i last saw a Tanya concert and I did not recognize any of the
band members. Most seem to be new since the Live at Billy Bob's DVD was
done.
Tanya gets a big "A" for this concert. I wanted to give it an A+,
but the lack of an encore prevents me.
The concert lasted about an hour and 15 minutes with no costume
changes. My friend Jeff thought each song was professionally done and she
packed a lot into that time frame. We also appreciated that there were no
lulls or band solos.
