Concert Review:  Golden Nugget

Las Vegas, NV - December 4 - 6, 2006

Tanya at the Golden Nugget

The theater where Tanya performed was renovated with new padded seats etc., and drink holders (nice). The stage was only about 30 inches above where we sat so it was very fan friendly.  And the band was really on the money for all three shows. They are as good as she has had for a long time but I think they only performed  one song by themselves before T came out.  Tanya was dressed to die for in each of her shows. She has lost weight and was in fabulous shape.  One show she pulled her blouse from her pants and twisted it in front and said it was more comfortable that way.  And her navel showed.  Shame! Shame! Always the naughty girl, but I didn’t mind. After all it was Vegas man.  Tanya was very playful with the audience in each of her shows and even did Elvis’s “In the Ghetto” during one show and several excerpts from his other songs in the other shows.  Most touching of all though was the standing O’s she received during  Two Sparrows, and also for a screen showing of the Daddy and Home video which reduced me to tears as I recall when she sent me a copy of that video back when my father died and it just brought back memories for me.  Then somehow, she switches gears and jumps into It’s a little too late.  I don’t know how she does it.  Overall, everything seemed emotionally amplified for some reason.  You just had to be there.  She still belts out the songs probably better today then she did years ago.  Lots of feelings in those songs, that’s for sure.  I would go again tomorrow in a heartbeat if I could.

A side note:

First of all, it was shear blind luck that I ran into Tanya in the Golden Nugget slots area after the first show around 4:30 AM.  But I couldn’t sleep and just wanted to go out and do a few slots. When I saw her by herself, it was so unexpected, and she was so nice to me, but I was kind of in shock. We talked for several minutes before she left for her room.  Also in my wildest dreams I never thought that I would ever get the chance to see her again like that but after the last of the three shows concluded, I did. Again by shear luck.  I was on my way back to my room when I heard someone say we can go see her now.  My life will never be the same. It wasn’t the normal M&G, far better, but I will have to leave all the details of that last meeting which were fantastic, for another day, however I can tell you T is everything I ever imagined and more in person. Whew my heart is still racing.

On another side note: You know, a lot of the fun for me is also meeting other Tanya fans and this time I met Billy and Dee of the famed unofficial Tanya web site, and a guy named Danny from Louisville, and Jeff and Teresa, and Leon from Norway,  and just a whole bunch of others as well as the Tuckerheads as T likes to say who were there. Also some of T’s friends who were also real nice people to meet.   For all you other fans, next year like Tanya sings in her song, “You don’t do it, You just think about it”, well maybe it will be the time to do it!  and not think about it, and join us out in Vegas again with T.  It will be a experience like no other.  PS She is starting to record another album, and I can’t wait!!! “Merry Christmas” everyone.

Special thoughts for Beau Tucker, Tanya’s dad.  Although I didn’t know him well, from what I knew of him, he was a mans man, and in my eyes, one I always will admire and look up to.  He will be missed.
