The Texas Tornado Touched Down in Gulfport

Tanya was the headlining act for an intimate and appreciative crowd at the Fairgrounds in Gulfport, MS on Saturday night.  She followed T. Graham Brown, Eddie Raven, The Bellamy Brothers and Restless Heart.  Tanya's high energy show was in sharp contrast to the acts before her -- Miss T gave a lesson on how it's done.

Tanya's band began the concert with a couple of solid tunes prior to playing the opening licks to "Some Kind of Trouble".

Tanya came out on stage with her patented moves strutting, dancing and posing across the stage.  Heavy fog began rolling in soon after the concert started.  Tanya was struggling with staying dry (so was the audience) and commented why she even bothered to wash her hair.  During one of her efforts to get her hair dry Tanya put a towel on her head "nun style" and laughed and said to be sure and get a picture so that "you'll know what I would look like if I was a nun."   Sister Tanya ..... I don't think so.  Mother Tucker?  Definitely!

Tanya talked about the Tammy Wynette tribute album and the song she recorded for the album  that Capitol Records would not allow to be included in the project:  Your Good Girls Gonna Go Bad.  Tanya told us K.T. Oslin ended up recording the song for inclusion on the tribute and that the song was in the wrong key for K.T. I can't imagine K.T.'s version holding up to Tammy's or Tanya's.  With that said, Tanya tore into her EXCELLENT remake of the Tammy classic.

After the masterpiece -- the bar stool medley -- Tanya looked at Porter (lead guitar) with the fog dripping off his hat and started singing  the words to a Charley Pride song  "rain dripping of the brim of my hat".  Porter jumped in on acoustic guitar and helped Tanya out with the words.  After the chorus the whole band joined in and finished up the great Charlie Pride classic.

In addition to Tanya's new band members, a couple of guests were also lending extra voices and guitars.  Jerry Laseter, Chrisalyn and another friend performed with Tanya and the band.  At one point Tanya looked at the band and asked "Am I paying all these people?"

The set list resembled the "Billy Bob's Live" concert  plus "Old Weakness" and "Window Up Above".  Another amazing performance by the best entertainer in Gulfport on Saturday night. Tanya ended the night with her signature "Amazing Grace/Delta Dawn" combo.
